“My son signed up for the cooking classes with no experience and not knowing anyone else in the class. He was unsure how it would go, but after the first class, he came home so happy and excited to share the meal he created and tell us all about what he learned. It was the first of many wonderful Epic Cooking School family meals we got to share all while seeing the joy and pride on our son’s face that he cooked it for us!”

Our Story

An avowed “lake girl” at heart, Elizabeth grew up in the Midwest, where her passion for cooking and baking was first sparked in her grandmother’s kitchen. Those early experiences—centered around family recipes, hands-on learning, and a love of sharing food—laid the foundation for her culinary path.

After moving to Northern California with her husband the three young children, Elizabeth took up surfing and connected with the local surf and coastal community through Proof Lab, a local surf shop. A playful exchange of homemade cookies for a surfboard here sparked the beginnings of Epic Bakery, as the cookies quickly developed a local following.

Around the same time, Elizabeth completed her pastry degree, and Epic Bakery was born. (the name “epic” reflecting her goal of creating cookies—and experiences—that are over-the-top, memorable, and genuinely special). What started with cookies soon expanded into hands-on baking and cooking classes for children and families.

Today, Epic Cooking School Classes has grown into Marin County’s premier cooking and baking school, serving more than 2,000 students over fifteen years. While the offerings have expanded well beyond cookies, the mission remains the same: to create joyful, confidence-building, and truly memorable kitchen experiences for kids and families.

“Elizabeth is a joy, and my son loves being in her kitchen. It’s a hands-on learning experience that will benefit our son for the rest of his life. The class gives kids life skills, confidence, and a greater interest and curiosity to try new foods Thank you Elizabeth! We highly recommend epic cooking school!”
